6 Ft Over is Back!!!

Taking the court tonight for the first time in over 10 months will be 6 Ft Over! Fans may recall the legendary franchise was hit with the “death penalty” in February of this year when the team was discovered to have used ineligible players in competition.

After accepting a one season ban from the Aegon Competitive League 6 Ft Over is back and might be better than ever. Basketball fans may think Pat Riley and the Miami Heat scored the biggest free agent coup this summer. They are wrong. That distinction belongs to 6 Ft Over GM Jeff Reiners. On July 1st, the first day of NBA free agency, Reiners struck up a friendly drunken conversation at Jerseys with one Tyler Albers. Albers, a former Jefferson J-Hawk, was humored by Reiners comparing him to LeBron James and agreed right then and there to join 6 Ft Over.

Albers brings a dribble drive game to 6 Ft Over they’ve never had before. He joins a team ready to dominate and guarantees nobody in the league can stop him Former 6 Ft Over MVP Aaron Shupert calls Albers, “the best player I’ve ever played with.”

Reiners wasn’t done this off season and also convinced Albers' friend, star guard Alex Bradford to join forces on 6 Ft Over.
(this part is somewhat made up but makes for a good story)

Bradford was 2nd team All-Competitive League last year and brings his considerable talents to the once floundering franchise. Can 6 Ft Over make it work though? Can a team less than a year removed from suspension come together and win in the viscous Aegon Competitive League? Albers and Bradford will have the green light to take 6 Ft Over back to the top.

A few familiar faces remain. GM/Coach Jeff Reiners is back again as a player. Fans may not recognize Reiners this season as he appears to have added 15-20 lbs of fat since we last saw him on the court. Reiners claims to have changed his game and no longer is the distance shooter from years past. Look for Jeff to do a little work on the boards because of the teams overall lack of height and size.

6 Ft Over career leader in DNP’s Brock Ryan is onboard for his 4th different stint with the team. Ryan credits a new kickboxing routine for the resurrection of his basketball career. Claims that Ryan was brought on board purely for the purpose of ticket sales have not been proven. Brock promises to give it the old “Ryan Try” in an effort to capture his first championship.

Justin Hasenmiller has become Mr. Reliable on 6 Ft Over. Back for another campaign is the guard that once led his beloved franchise to victory over the YMCA All-Stars in 2009.

Ever the team player, Hasenmiller should fit in nicely with new teammates who can actually create their own shot. The team may also turn to the 5’9 Hasenmiller for rebounding help as he’s proven to be effective on the glass.

6 Ft Over will honor one of the franchise’s all time greats during a ceremony between games one and two. Former Rec League MVP and 6 Ft Over’s career scoring leader Aaron Shupert will watch as his jersey is retired at the Edgewood Campus’ 5th floor gym. Shupert remains in relative exile these days. Still fit and ready to play, Shupert’s eligibility came in to question before the season opener last winter. He will not comment on the eligibility matter citing legal concerns. Rumors persist that Shupert will be making spot appearances at 6 Ft Over home games in hopes of being able to sneak by security and onto the floor.

Former YMCA All-Star Holds Down CR

Back in the summer of 2009 a young 6Ft Over squad faced the YMCA All-Stars led by Trent Gaines.  Trent aka PHARAOH T.GAINE$ is known around the Cedar Rapids streetball community as one of the better ballers around.  That, however, did not stop 6Ft Over from stopping Trent and the YMCA All-Stars and getting the win that day.

Now AllHipHop.com is reporting that the former YMCA star has punked out a former G-Unit member, snatched his chain and run him out of town.

"UH OH. I have multiple sources that have indicated that Young Buck ran into some problems in Iowa on Saturday night. This is not good rumors/news. I heard he was performing and a fight broke out and all hell broke loose. When it was all said and done, Buck's chain had gotten swiped. Now, my sources say some dudes have it and are running in the streets with it. This show went down in Cedar Rapids.

Source said "yo all hip hop what it look like... to get strait to the point young buck had a show in cedar rapids Iowa Saturday night the 10th in which local rap star and the man that runs the state PHARAOH T.GAINE$ also performing that night, so to make a long story short young bucks home girl starts talkin s**tto T.Gaine$ and he checks her so buck chimes in and T.Gaine$ says to him n***a u in my state i'll run u and yo crew up out here!!!! the chick says somethin and T.Gaine$ gives a female a signal and all the sudden she starts scrappin young bucks girl up then points at buck and says n***a u wanna get yo ass scrapped up to and jumps on stage while recording with a camera, buck being a smart hood n***a says lets ride and takes off and T.Gaine$ jumps on the mic and tells him he better not be at his own after party with all that tough talk otherwise u gettin scrapped up."

DAMNATION...THE RUMORS ARE TRUE! Well, I don't have a true confirmation, but sources are coming out of the woodwork. The latest is that Buck was relieved of a lot of his stuff, including the chain in question. Apparently, this happened at the back of the venue right before he was to get in his van to leave. Some big time rapper named Big Bang of Cedar Rapids, Iowa is looking to help Buck get his stuff back intact. Apparently, Buck is coming back in town to get his stuff. I love how, in Hip-Hop, somebody has to talk to somebody to get somebody's stuff back for them."

Trent's brother WIl Gaines was also a former member of 6Ft Over. Does this mean the team might be implicated as a part of this act? I doubt it, but it is amazing the connections 6Ft Over has developed with the Cedar Rapids rap scene.  Look out for Trent Gaine$ either on the mic punking you out or in the gym dropping jumpers in your eye.

Ex 6 Ft Over Players Move On

Former 6 Ft Over players Jeff Reiners and Justin Hasenmiller will suit up tonight in rival colors for the first time.  "It's going to be strange and will probably take some time to get used to," said former 6 Ft Over coach Jeff Reiners. With the original team in shambles former players have been scrambling to find a team to catch on with.  Jon Fortune, the GM of Team Fortune came calling early last week and offered his final two rosters spots to the aging veterans. "Our loyalties still are with the original 6 Ft Over but as they say this is a business," added Reiners.

Both Reiners and Hasenmiller could be key role players for a potential title run. 6 Ft Over's title chances were slim but Team Fortune may just have the right mix to capture the Competitive League title in 2010.  "At my age I can't carry a team like I once could. I'm happy to provide a little spark and not do too much scoring. All I want is that ring," said Justin Hasenmiller.  Reiners isn't sure of his future beyond this season. The stunning disqualification of his beloved franchise has made him reconsider his looming retirement.  "I'd love to get the original guys back together for one last go of it. We'll see if they lift our ban before next October."

Other former 6 Ft Over players have been spotted around town in recent days.

*Richard Dengler has been playing Monday nights at the Iowa City Fieldhouse. He also has been seen getting turned down by numerous women outside of the downtown Fieldhouse.

*Aaron Shupert continues to play his part for the Tailgators version of 6 Ft Over in the Marion YMCA league. He also has been spotted getting kicked out of numerous downtown Cedar Rapids nightspots in recent weeks.

*Former statistician Brock Ryan hasn't been seen on any courts recently, except for the court of law.

*JR Russell still is a bartender and still insists he played legally in the AEGON competitive league last session.

*Nick "Big Cock" Hach is still dunking and getting into foul arguments in the Marion Y league. And yes ladies....there is a reason behind the nickname.

*One time fill in Michael Y's wife is still alive. Barely.

*The Guatemalen Gunner still is developing his game with the Guatemalen National Team.

*Troy Eaves has taken his "Eavesdrop" to Chicago. Rumor has it he has been making babies and practicing his 35 foot rainbows that go in more than his layups.

*The former KWood baller who scored all of our points one night has not been seen in months. Don't bother looking for him on KWood's roster either because he doesn't play there. Liar. A good player though.

*The Mysterious Charlie was gone as soon as he arrived. No sightings since August.

*Orginal 6 Ft Over player Corey T still works at AEGON and still refuses to acknowledge that we know of each other. No eye contact, no hello is his motto.

*David, the left handed player with no game from 6 Ft Over's inagural campaign is no longer listed in the AEGON directory. Lay offs are a bitch.

*Adam "Lights Out" Olson is currently spending his down time at Tailgators headquarters dancing to Miley Cyrus "Party in the USA".

Team Winner of 2 Straight

6Ft Over Tailgators won for the second time in as many weeks this Wednesday night bringing their season record to 4-2.  The team is delighted to have a winning record for the first time since the days of the AEGON Rec League.  Their last two opponents, Rush, and 3 Rivers Legend, were no match for the squad led by Tyler Albers and JR Russel.  With only 3 games left this season, things look good for the squad finishing above .500.

There is, however, one looming make-up game scheduled at the end of the season that could spell trouble of the proud team.  This game is tentatively penciled in for March 17th.  As many drunks and Irishmen might already know, March 17th just happens to be St. Patrick's Day.  For a team littered with both drunks and Irish, this could spell disaster if the game is enforced.  Forward Nick "Big Cock" Hach has already committed to a drunken may-lay at Tailgators headquarters during the proposed game time.  Shupert, Russel, and Hasenmiller also will be indulging in the life of the Irish and will definitely not be suiting up sober, even if a winning record is on the line.

Back in 2009, 6Ft Over found themselves in similar circumstances.  Coach Jeff Reiners and star forward Aaron Shupert were spotted boozing down at a local pub right before tip-off of a regular season game.  Not only did they play well, the team destroyed their competition in what is now only referred to as the "St. Patties Day Massacre".  Hopefully the team will still have a little luck of the Irish left in them this year as they most certinly will need it.

No Love for 6Ft Over Tailgators

Wednesday, after the tragic news that the team would no longer be able to compete in the Aegon League, 6Ft Over Tailgators came out as flat as Kevin Durant's stomach.  Nothing was working for the club as they were run off the court by Bosh Financial. Bosh was led by former Kennedy High school sensation Chad Gehrls as well as other varsity players from the '03 Kennedy class.

6Ft Over Tailgators had 7 players show up for the game but it didnt help.  No matter who they put on the floor, they were easily beat off the dribble or would just be embarrassed by having a shot drained in their face.  Toward the end of the game with victory completely out of hand, down by 30, some members of 6Ft Over Tailgators tried to turn the game into a dunk contest.

The dunk contest really just turned out to be embarrassing for all parties involved.  Bosh Financial just stood around and laughed as Nick "Big Cock" Hach and newly acquired Will (who you might remember from the YMCA All-Star team that 6Ft Over beat last summer) attempted weak dunk after weak dunk, bouncing the ball off the rim more often then not.

"It was pretty pathetic", one member of Bosch financial said after the game, "We just let them make a fool of themselves, we thought it was pretty funny".  After the game neither Hach or Will had any comments about their dunk contest.  However, Hach shouldn't be to blame for his poor showing in the contest as he hasn't been listening to team doctors and has been having sex almost daily.  One team doctor estimated that Hach's testosterone levels are so depleted right now that has completely disabled his jumping ability.

Meanwhile other members of 6Ft Over Tailgators, including forward Aaron Shupert were just wishing they could have been apart of the contest and had the ability to even slam the basketball off of rim. "Man, I wish I could still jump like Hach", Shupert said, "It would be cool to be able to dunk, no matter how weak it was".

6Ft Over's Darkest Hour

6 Ft Over has been disbanded due to numerous recruiting violations that were uncovered last night at approximately 5:35 CSD. All players were released from contract and are free to sign with other teams. Competitive League officials have handed down the "death penalty" to what was once a proud program.

The severity of the punishment is due to the discovery that 6 Ft Over has fielded a team full of ineligible, non-aegon employees for the past few seasons. Forward Aaron Shupert insists that he was indeed an eligible player throughout his illustrious career. Shupert claims he is locked in holy matrimony with a Morgan L Ryan who has been verified as a Aegon employee. Since spouses were once (but no longer) eligible for league play,Shupert says he will fight hard to keep his league records, including a championship and a MVP award. Shupert has been unable to substantiate his marriage claim.

Long time 6 Ft Over GM Jeff Reiners announced his resignation effective immediately. It will be up to someone else to clean up the mess that once was a proud recreational basketball club.
"I knew this day would come. We've been toeing that line for quite a while. It was just a matter of time before someone stepped in a said "That's Enough."

6 Ft Over's official response to the league's accusations came in the form of this crudely written resignation from GM Jeff Reiners

"We will not be taking the seriousness of these violations lightly therefore we feel that the death penalty is the only appropriate form of punishment," said a league source.
The league offered no comment as to the length of the ban. As for 6 Ft Over's lone championship and other records?

"Those banners up there, those are all coming down."

February 1st, 2010 goes down as the darkest day in 6 Ft Over history.

OPENING DAY STUNNER; RUSSELL TO SIT, DENGLER BREAKS CONTRACT!

Breaking News

6 Ft Over starting guard JR Russell will not play tonight in the season opener. In a move announced just hours before the start of the 2010 Spring Season the team has asked Russell to sit out the opener while the investigation into his eligibility continues.

"It's just too much of a distraction right now," said GM Jeff Reiners.

In another breaking news story it was discovered today that former 6 Ft Over swingman Richard "Dick" Dengler has decided to void his lifetime contract to join a U of I Fieldhouse team in Iowa City. Whether or not 6 Ft Over will release him from his contractual obligation has not been revealed. The team did not officially comment on Dengler other than to state that they were disappointed with young Richard's "direction".

With the team short handed for tonight's opener recruiting coordinator Aaron Shupert has been scrambling to find extra bodies. The Guatemalan Gunner Marco De Leon unfortunately is not available as a late sub. (For the record 6 Ft Over is 0-8 historically when The Gunner sees action).

You may remember last season Mike filled in admirably when the team was short handed. Mike has been signed on for another shot at glory tonight. Fans of 6 Ft Over should be happy to know that Mike's wife continues her courageous fight against cancer. Her ongoing battle has freed up Mike to participate in recreational basketball games and to pursue healthy women at local CR nightspots.

Spring 2010 Competitve League Preview

With the long winter off season finally over it's time for a new season of basketball! 6 Ft Over presented by Tailgators enters the 2010 campaign with high hopes. After a slow start caused them to miss out on the 2009 Winter playoffs the team is focused and starting just as fast as they finished last season.

6 Ft Over presented by Tailgators looks to make the competitive league playoffs for the 1st time in franchise history.

"Rec league MVP's, beating the YMCA All Stars, Rec League champion...all that shit don't mean nothin' said 6th year forward Aaron Shupert.

"The goal is to make the playoffs and win the damn thing."

Shupert has comitted himself to an unusual cross training regiment that he insists has him ready for the season. Instead of working on post moves Shupert has decided that boxing will make him better in the paint. The forward has also been spotted on weekday mornings outside of an aerobics class called "Extreme Body Shaping." He hopes that the added flexibility will limit his trips to the DL this season.

You may remember last Spring Season saw Shupert at odds with management over his much delayed eye surgery. This off season also had it's share of controversy.

In early January Shupert was accused of serious recruiting violations that centered around his desire to stack 6 Ft Over with 3 or 4 former college players none of which were qualified for AEGON league play. 6 Ft Over's questionable acquisition of guard JR Russell is still being independently investigated by the league office.

Shupert refused to comment specifically on the accusations but did say that he will be ready for the season despite the distractions.

JR Russel is on board for a full season this time around. His addition helped spur 6 Ft Over's late season playoff push last year. The point guard makes his teammates better and pushes the pace of the game.

A fast past game might not be to the benefit of newly reinstated player coach Jeff Reiners. Reiners, fresh off his suspension from the YMCA version of 6 Ft Over, stumbles into what may be his final season. At age 28 he appears to have lost a step. Gone are the days when the 17 year old string bean galloped up and down the court. Nowadays Reiners drifts to the perimeter, looking for a jumpshot that may never return.

"I'll take a look at it after the season. When your my age your body speaks to you. So when I ask the legs if there is another season left, hopefully they'll tell me come March," said the grizzled veteran of 6 AEGON seasons.

"It's been a great run, we'll just have to wait and see."

Back in his familiar off guard role will be Justin Hasenmiller. JR's precense took Justin off the ball where he feels the most comfortable. He also no longer has to guard lightening quick point guards and leaves that duty for Russel. He enters this season as 6 Ft Over's career leader in rebounds and 3 pointers made.

Fans of 6 Ft Over may recall when Richard "Dick" Dengler was a consistent member of the team. Since it was discovered that Dengler was attempting to do homework for classes that hadn't even started yet, he has been rarely seen in the 6 Ft Over black and grey. The fan favorite still has a spot on the team according to Coach/GM/Player Jeff Reiners.

"The door is always open for Richard. We miss his defensive presence and more importantly his bizzare post game comments. I miss him and the blog misses him."

Richard has not been seen playing the game of basketball for quite a while. Since his move to the U of I, several media outlets have reported that he has spent his time fucking and sucking with local Iowa City women.

"You know me man I like to fuck," Dengler said outside of the Airliner last weekend.

Predicted order of finsh :

1. 10-2 "Dynasty"
2. 8-4 "Snuggie Party"
3. 8-4 "Friedley"
4. 7-5 "Hinkeldey"
5. 6-6 "Friedley"
6. 6-6 "6 Ft Over"
7. 4-8 "The Danny Tanners"
8. 3-9 "Fortune"

Ex 6 Ft Over Player Lends a Helping Hand

(Former 6 Ft Over Sub Brock Ryan pictured in his element.)

Former 6 Ft Over presented by Tailgators player Brock J Ryan lent a helping hand to his former team. With Team Captain Jeff Reiners scheduled at his day job today right up until the 6 pm tipoff Brock stepped in and volunteered to cover the time.

“It’s the least I could do,” said Ryan when reached for comment.

Rumors have circled in the off season that 6 Ft Over has considered bringing Ryan in for a workout and possibly signing him to a free agent deal. Since his contentious release last season Ryan has been spotted on the police blotter more than on the hardwood.

“I’m open to signing with any team. 6 Ft Over or not,” Ryan added.

Ryan likely faces an instant suspension for his DUI arrest. This has been a big factor as teams have showed little interest in the former 4th man of the year candidate.

First Loss Handed to Team by "New" Superstar...

Ft Over Tailgators received their first loss of the season Wednesday night. The team was apparently cursed by the arrival of their new uniforms. The Fresh, Blood Red, Tailgators sponsored Uniforms looked good on the team, too bad the team didn’t look good in them. The team started off as cold as the Marion, Iowa Ice. No one on the team could seem to find a rhythm and the Dream Team Rejects ran out to an early lead that they never would relinquish. What was so embarrassing for the team is that they were schooled Dream Team Rejects front man to now only to be known as “Mr. Magoo”.

Magoo, a 52 year old man, ran up and down the court and fired three point baskets with reckless abandon. The 52 year old man refused to ever sub out of the game just to prove to the much younger Tailgators edition squad that he was in better shape than all of them combined. Magoo scored 36 points in the game and was 10 for 12 from behind the arc. “We tried everything to stop him, we switched defenders, we fouled him on every shot and it still didn’t matter” JR Russell said after the game. JR was Mr. Maggo’s primary defender, but it didn’t matter who the team put on him, he used and abused them like a .50 cent hooker.

As Mr. Magoo was running up and down the floor talking trash to the 6Ft Over Tailgators bench, Justin Hasenmiller pointed out that when Magoo was his age, there was no 3-point shot. It is amazing Magoo was able to hone in such a skill seeing he has only had the last half of his life to work on it. Manger Aaron Shupert and Hasenmiller spent the entire second half on the bench just watching the barrage from Mr. Magoo. “I don’t even want to go in and be embarrassed my him”, Shupert told Hasenmiller during the second half.

As the team left the stadium dejected from their first loss, Magoo, surrounded by his teammates just looked back smiling and gave the losers a wink. There is no doubt that 6Ft Over Tailgators has not scene the last of him. Luckily for the team, Magoo’s lifespan has almost been reached so there are only a limited amount of years they will have to worry about it.

6Ft Over Goes Polar Bear

Pictured above from left to right Dengler, Shupert, Reiners, Hasenmiller.

6 Ft Over has shown throughout their history that they aren't guys that back down from a challenge.  That's why when Bostins Bar and Grill in Coralville Iowa advertised the Polar Bear Challenge the entire team came out in full force.  The season may be a week away, but that didn't stop the guys from drinking outside from a keg of beer for hours in the freezing cold in order to be crowned true Polar Bears.  The competition was blown away when all members of 6 Ft Over remained outside in the sleet for the duration of the challenge.  Also amazing was that none of the Polar Bears had to urinate once while taking part in the challenge.  The winners of the challenge denied the rumor that they actually spent time and money rigging tubes that they fastened to their legs and used to dispell urine from the bottom of their pant legs.

Shupert and Reiners then took the challenge to the next level.  Rather than call it a night when the challenge was won the guys decided that purchasing another keg from the bar would prolong the Polar Bar Challenge, possibly through Saturday (but not Sunday).

With another keg in tow, Reiners and Shupert returned for more on Saturday morning much to the shock of the bar staff.  They refused to be cleared out until all the chairs were put up and the lights turned off at 1 am Sunday morning.

To cap off the Polar Bear challenge Shupert and Reiners were seen pounding on the front door of Bostins at 10:55 am demanding access to the keg they had purchased Friday evening.  There was Australian Open tennis to be watched, girls to be flirted with and families to piss off.  Keg stands, dancing and insults were plentiful Sunday at Bostins.  When it all finally came to a brutal end Shupert and Reiners jumped behind the wheel and drove home to their furious families.  Monday was rough at work for both of them.

Ice Storm Forces Cancellation of 6Ft Over vs. One More Flare

CEDAR RAPIDS - The National Weather Service has now issued an ice storm warning, effective until 6 a.m. Thursday, for many parts of East Central Iowa.

The bulk of our ice accumulations will occur during the day, and 0.2" to 0.40" of ice is expected during this time. Some additional freezing rain or freezing drizzle is expected tonight and tomorrow morning, which should be pretty light. You will want to be cautious today as ice covered roads and sidewalks will be likely.

The Cedar Rapids Police Department has asked that people not travel in the City of Cedar Rapids due to the dangerous conditions that are shaping up in eastern Iowa.

YMCA Marion has been canceled and thus the much anticipated game between the two Cedar Rapids juggernauts has been postponed to a later date. There has been no comment from the league commissioner on when this game might take place.

Free Agent Spurns 6 Ft Over for Bowling League

6 Ft Over thought they had a blockbuster signee this morning. That all changed just minutes ago when their potential free agent guard rejected the contract offer and joined a bowling league. 6 Ft Over GM Jeff Reiners was fuming when reached by the press.
"He's a bitch anyways. We'll just win it without him," Reiners stated.
Recruiting coordinator Aaron Shupert is already on the trail looking for a player 6'5 or taller that doesn't work at Aegon and has a backround as a college basketball player.

Shupert Accused of Major Recruiting Violations

What do all of these men have in common?
None of them give a shit about integrity while recruiting basketball players. You know why? Because they get the best players that way, it's up to you to catch them.

After a disappointing start to the 2009 Aegon Competitive league 6 Ft Over GM Jeff Reiners handed over recruiting duties to Aaron Shupert(pictured above with other violaters) and gave one order, “Find me some basketball players.”

Shupert responded by bringing in some questionable characters who helped 6 Ft Over close the season strong. The new recruits were ineligible of course and their presence on 6 Ft Over was a blatant violation of league rules. The new recruiting program even led to sponsorship and a team full of athletes to compete in the less restrictive YMCA league.

With the spring Aegon league rapidly approaching a new roster is taking shape. Shupert’s shady recruiting tactics have been of some concern to 6 Ft Over brass. It came to a head this morning when Shupert proposed offering a scholarship to a 6’7 270lb non-aegon employee. 6 Ft Over likes to win but not in the spirit of Tim Floyd or John Calipari. League officials are rumored to be looking into the 6 Ft Over program in search of violations. If any are found, 6 Ft Over would be in danger of forfeiting wins and even it's sole league championship.

No need to worry though. News is rapidly spreading around Aegon this morning that 6 Ft Over has tendered a one year offer to 1st Team All-Aegoner Josh Rekenwaldt of defending champion “Never Back Down.”

Strangely “Never Back Down” has disbanded following their championship and has decided not to defend it. This has left their leader and captain in search of a home. Luckily 6 Ft Over has a spot for any Aegon employee that can put the ball in the hole.

Fans of 6 Ft Over may recall that Josh lead a rec league team last season that ended the team’s record 16 game winning streak. Josh is vocal on the court, plays tough D and gets into foul disputes with opponents. Exactly the kind of player you want to play with instead of against.

6Ft Over Tailgators Rally to Stay Undefeated

In a historic YMCA comeback, 6Ft Over Tailgators made a 20 point 3rd quarter deficit disappear and came out victorious 92-84 in a Wednesday night thriller. The Ville proved to be the first real test of the season for the new lineup of 6Ft Over Tailgators. The athletic former Springville ballers ran up an early lead using their size and speed to get easy transition buckets. Meanwhile, 6Ft Over Tailgators struggled from the field early and were relying on contested jumpers, trying to find a rhythm.

Manager Aaron Shupert started the game but was bothered by some nagging injuries and was ineffective offensively. Reserve Justin Hasenmiller came in and gave the team a spark off the bench in the first quarter. Justin relied on his energy to out hustle his man getting some key lay-ups during the flow of the game.

Point guard JR Russell started off slow but settled down as the game went on, hitting back-to-back 3 pointers that helped close the gap in the 3rd quarter. Nick Hach added some key buckets while attacking the offensive glass and converting on several well executed pick and rolls.

The true star of the show, however, was Tyler Albers. After making several runs during the game, 6Ft Over Tailgators still found themselves down 20 points mid way through the 3rd quarter. At this time Tyler decided to put the team on his back and carry them to the finish line. Tyler, who easily score over ½ of the teams points abused his defender, taking him to the hole over and over again. On one play Albers crossed over his man so badly that not only did the Ville’s best defender’s ankles break, his spirit did too. In a true Jordanesque performance, Albers was the games MVP.

Down the stretch 6Ft Over clamped down the defense and stopped 4 straight attempts by The Ville to keep the game in reach. JR hit 2 free throws to seal the victory with less than a minute to play. Nick Hach rebounded from last weeks dunking debacle to cap the game off with a fast break and thunderous slam as the clock expired.

After the game beers were served at Tailgators headquarters in celebration.

6Ft Over Tailgators Defeats Willow Wood Warriors in Their First Game

6Ft Over presented by Tailgators rolled in their first game of the new season. A new line-up this year has helped the continuity of the team. The team features former part time 6Ft Over star, JR Russell, at point guard. JR is the on court leader of the team and his ball handling, passing, leadership, and defense have been a huge upgrade for the squad.

At shooting guard, 6Ft Over has a new addition in the form of Tyler Ablers. Tyler stole the show in their first game with at least 10 steals and over 1/3 of the team points. Tyler’s athleticism and endurance was too much for the Willow Wood Warriors, made up of 40+ year old former basketball greats.

In the post, the team had another new member, Jake “the hammer”. Jake was recruited be team leader JR and was a force inside. The strapping 6’ 7” young man muscled his way into the paint and dominated the defensive glass. His post play was superb and the Warriors were shaking in their boots every time he had a clean look at a potential drive to the bucket.

Team manager and wing man Aaron Shupert took a more reserve roll but added in some key buckets early to help the team get on a roll. Shupert struggled with his stamina after abusing his body the night before in celebration of Iowa’s Orange Bowl victory.

Former 6Ft Over YMCA star Nick “Big C*ck” Hach rounded out the line-up. Hach struggled in his first game back with the team. His woes came to a climax when Hach led a fast break only to be rejected by the rim in a failed dunk attempt. “That was an off game for me, but we still dominated so that’s good” Hach said after the game. Coach Shupert is suggesting a strict regimen for Hach this week, including no sexual activity from now until after the game so he can get his testosterone levels back and attack that rim. Hach had this to say afterwards, “I don’t think it’s worth giving up that for basketball. I love dunking basketballs, but dunking other things is more important”

Former shooting guard Jeff Reiners was a no call no show for the game and the team has issued the following statement.

“Although it is clear that the actions of Mr. Reiners will ultimately result in a substantial suspension, and perhaps worse, his ongoing conduct has led me to conclude that he is not currently fit to take the court in a YMCA game,” Shupert said in a statement. “Accordingly, I am suspending Mr. Reiners indefinitely, without pay, effective immediately pending the completion of the investigation by the YMCA.”

Reiners has officially been replaced on the team by another former team fill-in, Adam Olsen, who will take the back up shooting guard role. Reiners will most likely have to wait for the Aegon season to begin to see any action since the YMCA suspension will not apply in that league.

"I feel very badly that my actions have caused the YMCA to suspend me, but I understand why the team took this action," Reiners said in a statement through his attorney. "I put the YMCA in a negative light and let down my teammates and our fans. I am very sorry for doing that."

Reiners has currently been staying out of the public eye, spending time at home with his family.
