6 Ft Over begins its defense of the Rec League Title Tuesday night against team AIT. Tip off will be proceeded by a brief ring ceremony and the raising of the 08 championship banner. The team will look slightly different from the one that rolled to the 08 title with a 13-1 record.
1st Team All Rec League Power Forward Aaron Shupert underwent off season eye surgery and may miss action in week 1. Also missing will be part time 4th man Brock Ryan who was ruled academically ineligible in January. Further adding to Coach Reiners' off season from hell is the lack of a player to fill the 5th roster spot. Reiners has been combing the free agent wire for weeks and so far has come up empty handed. In a rare stroke of good fortune 6 Ft Over was granted a Week 2 bye which will allow the squad to mend its off season wounds.
On a brighter note 6 Ft Over returns Comeback Player of the Year Richard "Dick" Dengler who surprised critics with his inspired play during the title run. Dengler is also a fan favorite whose weekly words of wisdom are welcomed by 6 Ft Over's fan base.
Reiners has committed himself to an off season training regiment and promises to contribute more this season. Tony Nieland will start at Center again this season. Tony will have to pick up the scoring and rebounding load that will be vacated due to Shupert's absence.
Coach Reiners has circled February 10th on the squads calendar. On the 10th 6 Ft Over meets the team that handed them their lone loss in 08. Cobra Kai is led by league MVP Roger Clark and Shupert nemesis Porky Pig. Porky torched 6 Ft Over's worn down front line in their last meeting. He also committed several hard/intentional fouls preventing Shupert from dominating the glass and for good measure called a over the back foul in a pick up game. Pig, as he sits quietly at his Aegon desk gaining weight, has no idea two Rec Leaguers are gunning for him this year.
